Detroit has much in common with what is happening here

One thing that struck me from Detroit’s bankruptcy filing was emergency manager Kevyn Orr’s statement, “I wish there had been a lot more outrage over the past 10, 20 years.” As someone who lived in the Detroit area nearly 20 years ago, I know what he means. That city’s similarities to Buffalo are eerie. With the high rates of poverty and unemployment, failing schools, high crime rates, declining population, unfunded legacy costs and visionless leadership, the people of Buffalo need to start waking up to the problems before it is too late and we see another great American city file for bankruptcy. Let the outrage begin!
